What not to do when displaying your dolls
Doll collecting and displaying is a huge industry but without the proper know how, your cherished items may not stand the test of time.
Here are a few tips on what not to do when displaying your dolls and some advice as to what works well.
1. Never display your dolls in a bright, sunny area or under incandescent or florescent
lights. The light will fade colors of clothing and damage certain doll materials leaving
the doll less than desirable.
2. Do not get tempted to store your growing doll collection in the basement or attic. It
is in these rooms that the temperatures go to great extremes of hot and cold and
these extremes can ruin plastic and other doll materials. If you must store part of
your collection, try to do so in a room temperature climate.
3. Please do not allow dolls to collect dust. Dust will dull the clothing colors and
settle into dolls wigs, requiring extra cleaning which eventually will take away from
the value of display dolls. Try to dust off regularly.
4. Although it may seem like your best option, try not to store dolls and accessories in
plastic containers. This will prevent dust and odors from building up but airtight
plastic can hold small amounts of moisture which will cause mold and mildew. This
build up of mold and mildew can be almost impossible to remove. If plastic is your
only option than try to punch small air holes into the container.
